NOVEMBER 2013 PRESIDENTS NEWSLETTER

Hello, fellow optimist. It's November 3rd and I'm trying to write a newsletter, something I haven't done in a long, long time.

There was a lot of stuff cussed and discussed at the various meetings we had. I know I won't remember all of them but I'll try to hit the high spots. Please bear with me.

October happenings

1. Tuesday, October 1st, BNOC, OYF, and BYSC board meetings.

2. Saturdays, October 5th, 12th, and 19th OYF football.

3. Tuesday, October 8th Installation and awards banquet.

4. Tuesday October 15th Casa Mexico dinner.

5. Saturday, October 19th BSU FB Programs.

6. Tuesday, October 22nd Twin Dragon lunch meeting.

7. Wednesday, October 23rd Volunteer Appreciation and Awards dinner at the Riverside Inn.

8. Thursday, October 24th First Bylaws Committee Meeting. Thanks Rick and Lisa.

9. Tuesday, October 29th 5th Tuesday at Joe' Crab Shack. 10 in attendance.

We discussed the Budget (Revised to be submitted on November 12th), New and additional stationary supplies for advertising and membership committee, Advertising pens to be used during football sign ups (split cost with OYF?). Web addresses for BNOC and OYF on the pens. Some concerns were expressed about weather the Hays House was double dipping or redistributing the Christmas gifts we gave them, being checked on. The Hays House auction was discussed, how big, how many organizations etc. Decided to keep it about the same size as last year with plans to look into expanding it for next year. Rick and Lisa covering gifts and auction, Dyan covering food and location, and Steve and Sue covering buying the gifts. Thanks all. Goodwill BBQ came through on their offer for the food shortage at the Installation Banquet, Full refund and $200.00 in gift certificates for Hays House auction. They are definitely off the clubs crap list.

The club name came up and I have to take responsibility for all the confusion. When we changed the LOGO last summer and dropped half or our Noon meetings, I made the assumption that we would become the Boise Optimist Club. I had no idea of how much sentimental value the Boise Noon name had for everyone. My mistake. As far as I am concerned we are still the Boise Noon Optimist Club (BNOC). That' what's on all of our paperwork and is our official AKA in the bylaws, It does not change the clubs purpose or mine or anyone else' job. I am truly sorry for the mix up. From now on we are the Boise Noon Optimist Club.

Some work was done on updating and simplifying our bylaws to make them easier to understand and comply with. There is a vacancy for one Vice President to be filled, if you are interested, please get your name to Walt by the end of the 8th of November. We will vote on the 12th of November. This is a board election IAW our bylaws.

We cleaned out the storage area at the Twin Dragon and after we found Jimmy Hoffa we started looking for Amelia Earhart, no luck.

Folks I want to emphasize this, If you want your input, ideas, or concerns considered, you have to attend the meetings and participate, not just complain after it's all over.

We have new tri-folds available with up to date information, we have some generic business cards, we have copies of the Creed , and several other items to be used as advertising aids, but they do not do us a bit of good if no-one passes them out or uses them. We have license plate frames etc.

There is some consideration being given to working with the Lion's club and some other organizations for some help with concessions, sign ups, cart drivers, field painting etc, and any other things that can be worked out. This is an ongoing project and will be pursued further as time goes by.

I am in kind of a quandary right now, there have been several suggestions of things we could pick up or get back into, but I'm reluctant to commit to any of them because I have no idea of how many helpers I can count on, and I definitely cannot do it all by myself. My main emphasis this year is to expand the club's membership and get us away from being the “best kept secret in Boise”. But this will take every ones effort. I realize this is a very busy time of year both as individuals and as a club, and I am pushing hard to get things moving. But we cannot wait until the last minute and expect to get any results other than what we've gotten before. So please bear with me.
