BNOC News, December 11

The BNOC meeting was gaveled to order by president Scott Muir at 12: 10. We were led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Linda Jackson, and the Invocation was said by Stub Clarkson.

SUNSHINE DOLLARS: Cindy Wall because her father does not have cancer. Cloris Brown because her son (and current Volunteer of the Year) Pat Brown came through back surgery just fine. Dyan Graybeal ... "Do you know husband Doug has been away off and on for 45 weeks?" Many said the MSTI Christmas Party was a big success. One little girl came up to Cloris and personally thanked her for the party. That brought tears to Cloris' eyes.

Walt Callahan introduced his good friend visiting from Reno, retired full Colonel, Core of Engineers, Don Pawlowski.

We still need people to help sell programs at the BSU basketball games!

We were blessed this day to have Garrett Patton as our speaker. Garrett is the son of someone named Greg Patton who I believe has something to do with coaching men's tennis at BSU. Mr. Patton Senior had just flown in from Europe at midnight fresh from leading his World Team Tennis team to victory. You're an amazing man Greg! http://www.usta.com/Play-Tennis/College-Tennis/masteru_blog_the_coaches_blog_from_france/

Today it was son Garrett's turn to take over the presentation duties. And you really could see that he was every bit as good as his father.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY

Tuesday, November 27th, 6:00 PM, Spaghetti Dinner. BYOB.
Location:Club House Events Center - 7311 W. Potomac (off of Denton, off of Cole Rd.)
Silent auction.

Please bring something for this silent auction.

In past years we have had 60 to 70 + people (adults and kids) from our Optimist club and OYF football committee along with their friends and guests help bring in the holiday season and raise money for Hayes House.

In addition to our membership, sponsors of our Optimist football teams and their families along with other parents of our OYF teams have been invited to celebrate with us, learn more about what we do in the community and, hopefully, join our club.

So, I hope you'll plan to be there Tuesday, bring a silent auction gift or gifts, and a dessert to be auctioned, as well as your checkbook. Also, if you have a gift that would be appropriate as a live auction item to raise big $$$$ please let us know right away.

Please plan to join us to make this a huge success and help us to continue to "make a difference" in the young lives we are able to touch.

WHAT COULD YOU BE DOING THIS TUESDAY NIGHT THAT WOULD BE MORE FUN AND POSITIVE THAN SPENDING QUALITY TIME WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND FUTURE FRIENDS.

And as a special note to Dr Kranz, I heard via the grapevine that "Grandma Sadies" special cinnimon rolls might be up for auction again.

Thanks for listening...

Optimists plan to "Rake up Boise"

Dear Optimists,

As we have done for many years now, the Boise Noon Optimist Club, has registered to volunteer for Rake Up Boise on Saturday, November 10. If you would be able to help our group for about 3 - 4 hours that day would you please respond so I know how many homes we will be able to handle.

This has always been a very rewarding day, helping those who need it and also a lot of fun. I know we will be raking up our very special home on Amber street again with hot coffee, cocoa, chocolate chip and famous Snicker Doodle cookies to keep us going.

My goal is 40 + people on our team. This is a great time for full families to get together to serve, so spouses, kids, friends or associates who might be considering joining our club or just want to help.

I'll be sending you an on-line registration form from Rake Up Boise for you all to complete once I know who will be on our team.

Thanks for your willingness to help others.

Newsletter May 1

Hello All,

We need a new President Elect. Dyan and Sue cannot by Optimist International rules do this again. Please think about being a Co-President.

Optimist Youth Football sign-ups are now being held at Riverglen Junior High School 6801 N Gary Lane Boise, May 5 & 12 9 AM to 1 PM. May 17 6 PM to 9 PM. Late sign-ups June 23.

Guest speaker Lou Siron
Dyan Graybeal gaveled the meeting to order at 12:10 PM.  Pat Brown led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Stub Clarkson said the Invocation.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS OF CHANGING OUR MEETING TIMES AND DATES?
It was brought up that we seem to get more people on a regular basis at our nighttime meeting at the Casa Mexico Restaurant. How about meeting twice a month for a nighttime meeting? Maybe ... 1st Tuesday a 6:30 PM meeting at Fuddruckers ... 2nd Tuesday regular noon meeting ... 3rd Tuesday ... 6:30 PM meeting at Casa Mexico ... 4th Tuesday regular noon meeting. Any thoughts?

RIP Bill Holstein
There were words spoken of the passing of Bill Holstein Pacific Northwest District Governor for 1990-1991 (overseeing all Optimist clubs in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and British Columbia). After his governorship ended he was called on to serve as the Optimist International Foundation Representative for the district.

Bill was quite a character, with a dry sense of humor.  He and I would meet at the Optimist fields at about 6:30 in the morning on those Saturdays when games were to be played to climb into a golf cart to shuttle people to and fro from the parking lots, and he was forever giving me the razz about my having the only golf cart with rear view mirrors.  "I'm going to take that cart from you Callahan!"   He would say ... he never did.  Rest in peace old friend.
Sending Larry on his way with $10

Holy Moley ... Larry Highley will be gone for the next two weeks.

Our speaker this day was Lou Siron from Veteran's Resource Network.  Lou talked of what I feel is a wonderful program ... getting things together to sent to our troops in Afghanistan and other places were our troops are deployed.    Boxes of goodies, food snacks, toiletries, and miscellaneous gifts.
