For the 5th Tuesday of the month, April 30, 2013 Larry Highley said that we should meet at Joe's Crab Shack (2288 North Garden Street Boise) at 6:30 PM for dinner. I'll be there, join us.

Walt Callahan gave a show and tell about some of his family history. I had a good time telling of my goofy family, but as always, I left out a lot!

April 16 meeting notes

We met at the Casa Mexico. President Scott Muir called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. Scott's son Ian led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and once again Stub Clarkson said the Invocation. There was talk of a new logo (made by an artist friend of Cyndi Elliot) and new bumper stickers for our club, and it was also suggested that we may change the name from The Boise Noon Optimist Club to The Boise Optimist Club.

Larry Highley spoke of a membership meeting after next Tuesday's luncheon/meeting at the Twin Dragon Restaurant.

He also talked of the upcoming events in the month of May.

Thursday May 2nd - Optimist Youth Football signups at River Glen Junior High from 6 to 9 PM.

Saturday May 4th - Soccer Tournament at the fields.
MSTI Prom setup - From 11:30 AM to about 5:00 PM.
MSTI Prom Servers From about 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Saturday May 11th - OYF signups at River Glen 9 AM to 1 PM.
Soccer Tournament at the fields all day.

Saturday May 18th - OYF signups at River Glen 9 AM to 1 PM.

Thursday May 23rd - OYF signups at River Glen 6 PM to 9 PM.

Saturday May 25 - Soccer Tournament at the fields all day.

Steve McNitt talked of the new construction being done at the concession stand. Gary Bassett talked of the OYF signups at BSU last Saturday.

Scott Muir said that since we haven't had many speakers lately, we could have our own members speak of their experiences. This time it was stub Clarkson's turn. (Next time it's mine.)

Stub talked of his childhood in the mining town of Calumet, Minnesota. population 900. (Now it's around 367) Stub had some great stories of the people there in the 30's and 40's fresh from Europe and how most could barely speak English. But they were like a melting pot or as Stub put it, "a salad."

There was $57 in the pot this time and Larry Highley's ticket was drawn ... he won $3.00.

The future looks bright

I never seem to learn, I have three allergies ... Ex wives ... Rush Limbaugh ... and freshly mown grass.  (My apologies to all you Rush Limbaugh fans.) Anyway, last Monday I decided to mow my lawn when the wind was blowing ... bad idea. I was a sick puppy all day Tuesday, so I couldn't attend the Twin Dragon meeting. Larry Highley sent me the following:

Walt, here’s the results of the 4/9 luncheon meeting/membership meeting. Scott called the meeting to order at 12:05, Dyan did the pledge, Stub did the invocation. There were a few sunshine dollars but I don’t remember who, sorry. The package deal for president for the next 4 years passed, ME 2014 pres. Rocky as 2014 1st vice, and 2015 president, Pat Brown as the 2014 2nd vice, and 2016 president, and Cyndi Elliot in line as 2017 president. I think this needs to be published for 3 times to become official, so would you please include it in the bulletin . The new 3rd chance drawing program was approved, I’ll send you a copy of it to also include in the bulletin. Cloris won the card draw with a King, and Cyndi won the free meal, even though she didn’t eat anything. It was agreed that we would offer Mike a guaranteed 4 person volunteer crew every morning from startup to 10:00 am, if he wants them. I will have a complete list of the 2014 board members as soon as I’ve had a chance to talk to a couple of more people. Cyndi had the tri-folds there along with the personnel information sheets and calendars to use at the signups. Cloris took all that stuff with her to bring to the signups on Saturday, volunteers are always needed, 12:00 to about 5:00. Hope you’re still willing to run the triple chance drawing.

Pat Waller says, "Here is the times we need help for the Childhood Cancer Prom night May 4. Please let me know who will be volunteering for the set up time 10:30 Saturday morning. Should not take long. Thank you.

Kudos to Larry Highley for his great work lining up our future Boise Noon Optimist Club Presidents! And a BIG thanks to Rocky Jackson, Pat Brown and Cyndi Elliot for stepping up!
