April 16 meeting notes

We met at the Casa Mexico. President Scott Muir called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. Scott's son Ian led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and once again Stub Clarkson said the Invocation. There was talk of a new logo (made by an artist friend of Cyndi Elliot) and new bumper stickers for our club, and it was also suggested that we may change the name from The Boise Noon Optimist Club to The Boise Optimist Club.

Larry Highley spoke of a membership meeting after next Tuesday's luncheon/meeting at the Twin Dragon Restaurant.

He also talked of the upcoming events in the month of May.

Thursday May 2nd - Optimist Youth Football signups at River Glen Junior High from 6 to 9 PM.

Saturday May 4th - Soccer Tournament at the fields.
MSTI Prom setup - From 11:30 AM to about 5:00 PM.
MSTI Prom Servers From about 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Saturday May 11th - OYF signups at River Glen 9 AM to 1 PM.
Soccer Tournament at the fields all day.

Saturday May 18th - OYF signups at River Glen 9 AM to 1 PM.

Thursday May 23rd - OYF signups at River Glen 6 PM to 9 PM.

Saturday May 25 - Soccer Tournament at the fields all day.

Steve McNitt talked of the new construction being done at the concession stand. Gary Bassett talked of the OYF signups at BSU last Saturday.

Scott Muir said that since we haven't had many speakers lately, we could have our own members speak of their experiences. This time it was stub Clarkson's turn. (Next time it's mine.)

Stub talked of his childhood in the mining town of Calumet, Minnesota. population 900. (Now it's around 367) Stub had some great stories of the people there in the 30's and 40's fresh from Europe and how most could barely speak English. But they were like a melting pot or as Stub put it, "a salad."

There was $57 in the pot this time and Larry Highley's ticket was drawn ... he won $3.00.
